SHAWN THOMAS TO APPEAR AT
Reconciliation Metropolitan Community Church
There are several things that make Shawn Thomas unique among Christian recording artists: He writes his own songs. He records and mixes his music in his own studio, even using his own voice for backup vocals. He tours at no cost. And he's openly gay.
Thomas, whose most recent single, "Out in this World (Remix)" is at number 2 on the OutVoice.net charts, will appear at Reconciliation Metropolitan Community Church on Saturday, February 19, 2011 performing at 6:00 PM.
Thomas' most recent CD of all-new music, "Worship and Desperation" (2008), was followed by a compilation release, "Revisited, Vol. 2," which spans 10 years of recording and five CDs, and which features six new tracks.
While Shawn's ministry through music calls him often to GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered) audiences, the songs are about salvation through Jesus Christ, not sexuality. In fact, one song on "Faith Unashamed," Thomas' 2007 release, is called "Not G** Enough for You," and offers a satirical description of how some in the GLBT community have criticized his music for not having "gay lyrics."
"Being gay is only a part of who God made me to be," Thomas said. "My purpose is to glorify God and share the gospel of Christ. The rest is incidental to the cause, and I'm blessed to be a vessel for worship and praise for fellow Christians."
Reconciliation Metropolitan Community Church is located at 3864 Benjamin Ave., NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525.
