RMCC Announces Mission Statement

On Sunday, April 24, 2011 we announced our mission statement.

A process that began last October at the retreat most of us attended – where we shared in ideas – the ideas were prayed over and the process of discernment began, and those that accepted the invitation extended to everyone came together and developed a mission statement which was approved by the Board of Directors this past Thursday, April 21, 2011.

Our mission statement is as follows:

The purpose of RMCC is to reach out and invite people in; care for and equip to grow; empower and send forth to be the hands, heart, feet, and soul of Jesus. Re: Luke 6:47-48a

Congregational Meeting

Dear Members of RMCC:

The Board of Directors of Reconciliation Metropolitan Community Church would like to request your attendance at our Congregational Meeting on Sunday, May 15, 2011. The meeting will take place immediately following the Community Meal which will be held after Worship.

You will notice on agenda that we have three Board of Directors positions open. We are grateful to God that we have candidates who are willing to serve in this capacity! We have asked each of the candidates to submit an application which consists of a short biography and several questions we believe are pertinent to serving on the Board. These applications will be included in the packet. We would ask that you take time to carefully and prayerfully read each application in preparation for the meeting.

Please review the entire packet prior to the meeting and bring it with you on the 15th. We look forward to your presence at the meeting!

In Christian Service,

Judy Hakala, Clerk

On Behalf of the Board of Directors

Altar Guild Looking For Team Members

The Altar Guild prepares the sanctuary for worship prior to services and tidying up after services. This ministry is on a volunteer basis as your schedule permits. This ministry will be starting to create banners and special decorations for the worship. This is a quiet, "behind-the-scenes" ministry for those who love to help create a sacred space for worship. Contact Cheryl DeJonge for more information.

All That Lasts Is What You Pass On

An inclination to give is written on your soul, no matter how muted it may be by your present concerns or lack of belief. Sometimes it takes a traumatic experience to bring that God-given pull toward generosity to the surface. Horror novelist Stephen King is not usually associated with sharing timeless biblical principals. But in a commencement speech delivered to Vassar graduates a few years ago, he offered some powerful insight on living an openhanded life. Here's an excerpt from his comments.

"A couple of years ago I found out what 'you can't take it with you' means. I found out while I was lying in a ditch at the side of a country road, covered with mud and blood and with the tibia of my right leg poking out the side of my jeans like a branch of a tree taken down in a thunderstorm. I had a MasterCard in my wallet, but when you're lying in a ditch with broken glass in your hair, no one accepts MasterCard.

We all know that life is ephemeral, but on that particular day and in the months that followed, I got a painful but extremely valuable look at life's simple backstage truths. We come in naked and broke. We may be dressed when we o out, but we're just as broke. Warren Buffet? Going to go out broke. Bill Gates? Going out broke. Tom Hanks? Going out broke. Steve King? Broke. Not a crying dime.

All the money your earn, all the stocks you buy, all the mutual funds you trade - all of that is mostly smoke and mirrors. It's still going to be a quarter-past getting late whether you tell the time on a Timex or a Rolex. No matter how large your bank account, no matter how many credit cards you have, sooner or later things will begin to go wrong with the only three things you have that you can really call your own: your body, your spirit, and your mind.

So I want you to consider making your life one long gift to others. And why not? All you have is on loan, anyway. All that lasts is what you pass on...

We have the power to help, the power to change. And why should we refuse? Because we're going to take it with us? Please. Giving is a way of taking the focus off the money we make and putting it back where it belongs - on the lives we lead, the families we raise, the communities that nurture us.

A life of giving - not just money, but time and spirit - repays. It helps us remember that we may be going out broke, but right now we're doing O.K. Right now we have the power to do great good for others and for ourselves.

So I ask you to begin giving, and to continue as you began. I think you'll find in the end that you got far more than you ever had, and did more good than you ever dreamed."

Board of Directors Election

During our congregational meeting on May 15, 2011, new Board Directors will be voted to the Board of Directors of Reconciliation Metropolitan Community Church (RMCC). Two (2) three year seats and one (1) year seat will be available in May 2011.

A primary responsibility of board directors is to participate in the development of policy and major decision-making at board meetings held the third Thursday of each month from 6:15 PM – 8:30 PM.

The next several years promise to be exciting ones for RMCC. We look forward to the continued creation of our foundational policies and strategies as well as serving the communities in which we live. The Board of Directors will play a central role in this important work. As you can see, we are expecting the board to be an active one.

If you are interested in being a part of this wonderful team, and are a member who has identifiable financial giving, you are invited to fill out the board application in RMCC’s standard operating procedures (SOP). Click here to download a copy of the SOP’s. Please return them to the board of directors clerk, Judy Hakala by April 26, 2011.
